you ever thought that maybe the reason girls say they’re fine when they’re not, or they’re not mad when they are, is because the second they show any semblance of emotion they’re written off as hysterical bitches that are probably on their period?

THE DA VINCI CODE HAS BEEN CRACKED

Reblogging again, because this will never be irrelevant.

yea getting girls to do STEM fields is important but u know what else is important? that we stop devaluing feminized work like elderly and child care, support work, social wprk, teaching, etc. pls stop acting like STEM fields are the final frontier for women

Okay this is infuriating. I’m a STEM student and I’m female. I walk into my science labs being the only woman out of twenty men. I’m seen as a know-it-all bitch because I’m a girl and I get better grades than most of the guys in my classes, whereas when the guys get high grade, they’re seen as really motivated and bright. When we have to have lab partners, the guys ask me to wash the glassware because “I’m a girl and that’s what girls do, right?” as one of my lab partners elegantly put it.  Think about the fact that woman could always be teachers, social workers, as well as work in what you call other “feminized positions,” but for a large majority of history, women in science were treated like they didn’t exist, even though they were often better, brighter, and made more discoveries than their male counterparts. Nobody is devaluing the work that woman do, but to continue to pretend that women being scientists, mathematicians, and engineers isn’t a big deal just encourages other people to ignore the issue that women in STEM fields are still made to feel like they will never be enough because they’re female. To me, being a female and a scientist is the final frontier. Go suck a lemon.
